The Housework Rules!

I feel a certain sense of shame that I have to post this latest addition to our household, which is going up on the (dirty) fridge tonight, but I am tired of being the immigrant maid, so maybe a public shaming of certain people will result in more help around the house.

DEFINITION: The Housework is what is done IN ADDITION to cleaning up after ourselves. Cleaning up after ourselves shows basic good manners. Not cleaning up after ourselves will result in a fruit fly infestation this summer and more growling from me.

· If you eat/ drink/ prepare food – CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF!
· Put lids back on bottles, tie bread bags with ties, and put food away
· Keep bedrooms clean and tidy; bring dirty plates/ cups/ etc. to kitchen
· Put dirty dishes/ cutlery/ cups/ etc IN THE DISHWASHER.
· If the dishwasher is full of clean dishes, UNLOAD IT!
· If the dishwasher is full of dirty dishes PUT IT ON, at the eco-setting.
· Replace the empty toilet paper roll with a full one!
· If you dirty the towels in the bathroom, change them for clean ones and put dirty towels in the laundry basket.
· DON’T LEAVE YOUR SMELLY SOCKS IN THE LIVING AREA!!!

This diatribe of frustration is followed by a colour-coded chart outlining responsibilities, including sweeping, cleaning, cooking, tidying, in various rooms of the house. All with names after them. And times. And expected occurances, eg weekly, daily, etc.

Which I spent my lunch hour preparing....

I have turned into soviet pop!!

I have noticed that my housemates (yes, they're still here) do this great thing where, if they make hot chocolate at night, they clean up the pot after themselves. If, however, they ask me if I want some and I say yes, they leave the pot for me to clean up. Sneaky.

Years and years ago I lived in a communal house where there was a cooking and cleaning rota, and the people who cooked also cleaned the kitchen that night. I always thought this was particularly fair.

Jeez, are you still 'entertaining' houseguests? How long is that now?
