Blue jays out in force this morning

The sun came up and shone a stream of wild orange through my window this morning and forced me to open my eyes even though I didn't feel like it. So I got up. Himself is gone to work; his seventeenth consecutive day. He's starting to feel the pain of it.

Never mind, I said. Divorce pre-hearing next Wednesday so you'll get a day off.

I'm nothing if not positive about these things.

So I'm sitting here hoping the day will be nice as it has rained for five days straight. Four of those days I was off, and I'm back to work this morning, so the chances of it being nice are pretty high.

I'm nothing if not realistic about these things too.

The blue jays are out in force this morning.

Queegh; queegh; queegh they are screaming at each other. I wonder what they are saying?

They always make me think of Queequeg in Moby Dick.

I don't want to go to work today.

Ah well... who does I suppose...

I have decided that there has been too much focus on things that are duty and not fun, so I will have to think of some fun stuff to do this evening.

After I tidy the house and cook supper.

I had another tussle with Kitty yesterday. After she left yesterday morning I had to clean the kitchen and tidy everything away. Then when she came home and had a tuna sandwich I had to do it again.

I got very effing annoyed.

You don't pull your weight I said.

She got all weepy; I don't think she got any sleep last weekend when she was home.

I do a lot of work you don't see.

What, I said.

Sweepin' 'n' stuff, she sniffled.

Well, why is the floor filthy then, I asked.

I have about eleven letters after my name, I said, and so I am not really qualified to be your maid.

You said I didn't have to do too much housework, she countered.

PUTTING THE EFFING LID BACK ON THE MAYONNAISE JAR AND PUTTING IT IN THE FRIDGE IS NOT WORK, OKAY!

Okay! Okay! Okay!

Work is sitting in an office trying to think of something intelligent to write about for the week. It's far more pointless than putting the mayonnaise back in the fridge.

Anyways, our communications maven is returning to the fold today after a year's leave of absence, so at least that's something to look forward to.

I think I need a holiday...
