Why do GAA umpires wear long white plastic raincoats?

Looking at the picture in the Indo yesterday?
Basically they wear the raincoats so they don't get wet (rains a lot here!!!) and to be easily distinguishable against the crowds of people behind them (i.e. so the referee can easily see where they are etc)
